Domain Name Servers (DNS)
When surfing the Web we use a domain name to visit sites. The URL for RMH Hosting is "http://www.rmhhosting.com" and contains the domain name rmhhosting.com.

Domain names are easy for people to remember but computers cannot read them in that form. Computers and servers use IP (Internet Protocol) addresses, or dotted quads, to identify and communicate with each other. An IP address will look something like 206.184.3.150 (this is not a working IP). Every time you use a domain name, you use the Internet's domain name servers (DNS) to translate the human-readable domain name into the machine-readable IP address. Some sites have their own unique IP address, while other sites share a server and therefore share an IP address.

Domain name servers translate domain names to IP addresses and the DNS system is a huge database that changes daily. In order for your domain name to 'serve' your site to visitors, your domain name must be associated with an IP address in the DNS database. If you register your domain name FREE with your RMH Hosting account, we will take care of this for you.

If you are using a domain name that you have already registered, you must log in to your account with your domain name registrar (place where you registered your domain name) and change the name servers (there will be two of them). You will receive the new name server information in your welcome e-mail. It takes 24 - 72 hours for databases around the world to update with new server information (domain name propagation). After this time, you will be able to view your site using your domain name.
